From the Irish faery tale, The Children of Lir. Evil stepmother
Aefe rids herself of her husband's children; Fianula, Fiachra,
Aeden and Conn, by transforming them into swans. The children are doomed
to wander the Irish marshlands for 900 years in their avian form, to find
release only at the arrival of Christianity.
