The Art of Paula Tabor
Artist's Statement
Because I think of myself primarily as an illustrator, it’s unsurprising that I like to create images that tell stories. To that end, I often draw on mythological, historical, even musical sources. I consider the portraiture I do to be in keeping with that aim. A true portrait tells something meaningful about its subject.

Although generally realistic, my work tends primarily to fall into two basic styles. My digital drawings display a flat graphic aesthetic reminiscent of Art Nouveau posters with their black outlines and gentle curves. Recently, I’ve been branching out to full color and gradation with acrylic paintings and drawings in pastel and colored pencil.

Although it may sometimes be considered passé, I have always treasured the idea of the artist as artisan; a skilled and trained craftsperson who takes great pride in the concept and quality of their work down to the finest detail. I try to bring that conviction to every work I do.
